£105 for a beef Christmas dinner that’s fit for a dog

The dogs and their owners are being invited to check in at the Best Western Dower House Hotel, at Knaresborough, and the dogs can have their own deluxe dinner and butler for £105.

Yesterday Brodie, a two-year-old cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a mini schnauzer, who is staying at the hotel got a chance to see what was on offer.

Ken Hardy, general manager of the hotel, said Brodie seemed keen on what was on her plate.

“We wanted people to be able to bring their dogs with them and let them have a treat,” he said.

Bosses at Best Western say the Christmas Dog’s Dinner arrives in direct response to a surge in customer demand for deluxe pet treats and features quality ingredients including matured Kobe Beef, Filet Mignon and Porterhouse steak, all cooked to order.

Mr Hardy said it couldn’t be served in the dining room but instead was served-up by a silver-service trained doggie butler in a designated room. The service is available at a number of the hotel group’s pet-friendly establishments.

At £105 per bowl, the feast costs around 110 times the price of a bowl of supermarket dog food and is more expensive than the priciest Christmas Day dinner for humans across the group’s 280 UK hotels.

But despite the high price tag, Mr Hardy said his hotel had already served-up the treat to two dogs and another was pencilled in for Christmas Day.

Hotel chiefs wanted to create something special for pets saying it had seen a surge in recent inquiries from guests requesting something special for their dogs to eat on Christmas Day.

Tim Wade, director of marketing at the company, said: “Dogs are part of the family and we’re already hearing of a number of guests booking the dinner an alternative Christmas day gift for their pet.”
