£315m upgrade considered for danger road

ONE of the most dangerous and congested roads in Yorkshire could finally be in line for an upgrade after Ministers promised to consider plans for a £315m improvement scheme.

David Cameron said yesterday he will “look closely” at proposals for a long-called for upgrade of the A64 between York and Scarborough, which has been repeatedly highlighted by campaigners as a major accident blackspot.

The road is largely single carriageway and suffers huge tailbacks throughout the summer months, hitting the local economy hard and causing frequent accidents as frustrated drivers attempt to overtake.

Mr Cameron said he accepts the “quality and capacity” of Yorkshire’s roads are a “major issue”, and promised further action.
