Public backs £2.7m campaign to save Old Master

An Old Master soon to go on sale has come home to Yorkshire as a campaign to keep it in the region and out of private hands rakes in hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The Procession to Calvary by Pieter Brueghel the Younger went on show yesterday at York Art Gallery. The National Trust and the Art Fund jointly launched a 2.7m fund-raising campaign in September to save the painting for the nation by Christmas. So far 870,000 has been raised. If successful, the painting would stay in Yorkshire, at Nostell Priory.
