Pushing the limits for charities
A former member of 34 Sqn RAF Regiment has completed a 24-hour wheelchair push covering more than 60 miles on the runway at RAF Leeming, near Northallerton.
Sean Allerton was involved in a motorbike accident in October 1993 in Cyprus, which resulted in him breaking his neck and leaving him a tetraplegic. Taking inspiration from The Proclaimers’ song, I Would Walk 500 Miles, he decided to raise money for charity by completing that distance in stages.
Having already completed two 500-mile pushes, he set off on the wheelchair PUSH 500 Charity Endurance Challenge which started and finished at the RAF Leeming Primary School. He was hoping to cover at least 50 miles but managed nearly 62.5 miles to raise money for charities including the RAF Benevolent Fund.
