Quality streets are sweet spots for breaks

Bootham Crescent in York took the top spot, with Columbus Ravine in Scarborough 13th and Rutland Street, Filey 15th.

The accolades were awarded by Quality in Tourism (QiT), the official assessment service provider for VisitEngland.

The league table shows those streets with the largest percentage of accommodation outlets which have been accredited.

In second place was Southey Street, Keswick with St Andrews Road, Paignton, third.

Bootham Crescent has seven hotels and B&Bs, six with QiT accreditation.

Neil Quigley, managing director at Quality in Tourism, said: “We assess 18,000 properties a year, so the ‘streets of quality’ project has been a big undertaking.

“We’ve looked at a lot of streets in great detail, and have spent a lot of time pulling together the relevant facts and figures. Big congratulations to Bootham Crescent for being the number one street.”

He added: “The UK, and in particular Yorkshire, has a thriving hospitality and tourism scene. And it’s important for those accommodation types to be congratulated and rewarded when producing a high quality service, and running a high quality establishment.

Kate McMullen, head of tourism body Visit York, told The Yorkshire Post: “Initiatives which seek to raise standards and highlight the quality of accommodation on offer in York and the region are always welcomed and we’d like to congratulate Bootham Crescent on this recent accolade.

“This street is in an excellent location close to the city centre and features some of York’s most characterful Victorian houses.”
