Rail workers rescued from high platform

A RAILWAY worker had a narrow escape in the early hours of yesterday after she became stranded on a hydraulic platform.

The rail line inspector, in her 40s, and a male colleague were inspecting a railway bridge over Barnby Dun Road in Wheatley Hills, Doncaster, when a van is believed to have driven through the safety cordon and crashed into the platform.

The man was able to climb onto the railway bridge to safety, but the woman was unable to get off the platform.

A fire service spokesman said: “Firefighters arrived quickly and reassured the lady, before using working at height equipment to attach a rope system to equipment to her and assist her onto the railway bridge. She then climbed down the banking to safety.”
