'Random' deer shootings probed

A spate of "random" deer shootings on a country estate is being investigated by police.

A "considerable number" of the animals have been shot dead on the 3,000-acre Hamptworth estate, near Landford in Wiltshire.

The killers used a rifle to attack the animals on the private estate, which has been home to the Anderson family for 200 years.

Police are asking members of the local community and those visiting the area to be vigilant and report anything suspicious. Pc Fritz Macauley said: "These incidents are particularly nasty, as the deer are just being randomly shot at and then left for dead."
