Rape-claim policewoman was rudest officer I’d ever met says inspector

A POLICE inspector told an employment tribunal a policewoman allegedly raped by a male colleague was the “rudest, most disrespectful” officer she had ever come across.

The West Yorkshire inspector was giving evidence on behalf of the force which is defending a claim of disability discrimination from the policewoman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The woman has a recognised history of depression and made the claim following dismissal in May last year for too many absences from work.

The former officer is claiming the force failed to make reasonable adjustments to her schedule to cater for her long term mental health problems which were exacerbated by the alleged rape in late 2010.

The inspector, who was the former officer’s line manager from June 2011 up to her sacking, insisted she had “fully supported” the woman in her phased return to work in 2011.

But her statement added: “In my nearly 20 years of police service, I have worked with and managed people who have had life challenging and life changing things happen to them. It saddens me to say that (she) is the rudest, most disrespectful, aggressive and obstructive officer I have ever met or managed.”

The tribunal continues.
