Red Devils and Spitfire among star attractions at Rescue Day

THE Red Devils parachute display team will drop into Crowle on Saturday when the North Lincolnshire town hosts the emergency services’ fourth annual Rescue Day.

A Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will also fly past at the fundraising event, which aims to boost the coffers of Help For Heroes, East Midlands Air Ambulance, Humber Rescue, and other local charities.

On the ground at Lakes Country Park will be representatives of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Humberside Police, an RAF search and rescue team and the AA.

The Red Devils will parachute straight into the lake and there will also by simulated traffic accidents, water rescues and displays from Newfoundland rescue dogs, police dogs, Humber Rescue, a jet ski display team, and a sub aqua club.

Organisers are hoping for another bumper crowd as they seek to beat last year’s fundraising total of nearly £20,000.

Andy Preskey, of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Rescue Day is a great opportunity for families to come and see some of the work emergency services carry out and meet the people who do it.

“It has grown a lot in short space of time and is now one of the biggest in Europe attracting around 20,000 people.

“A lot of hard work goes into organising it but it is worth it to see so many people enjoying a fun packed day. Their generosity is really appreciated and helped us raise almost £20,000 pounds last year for various charities.” Gates open at 9am and the fly-past is due to take place at 10.55am.
