Reds and blues united in grief

Premier League managers Kenny Dalglish and David Moyes joined more than 1,000 people at the funeral of former Liverpool and Everton defender Gary Ablett yesterday.

The 46-year-old lost his 16-month battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on New Year’s Day.

His wife Jacqueline and four sons, Reece, Riley, Josh and Fraser and daughter Scarlet all attended the funeral at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral where Fraser was one of the pallbearers.

The service began with the Liverpool anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone and finished with the Z-Cars theme, which is played before every game at Everton’s Goodison Park.
