Resort nets £80,000 for community projects

Groups and voluntary organisations can apply for grants of between £250 and £2,500 to carry out improvements to the environment or increase the range of community activities under priorities set by the recently appointed eight-member Community First Panel.

Applicants will be expected to match-fund the grants, although this can include the value of volunteer time, donated cash, goods or services.

The money has been awarded from the new national grant scheme, the Neighbourhood Match Fund, and the programme will be run through Bridlington Renaissance Office.

Peter Turner, East Riding Council portfolio holder for localism, said: “This is a great opportunity for voluntary and community groups to access small grants that can make a big difference if they contribute to the priorities set by the panel in their local area. It also recognises the immense contribution that volunteers make to the community, and gives a monetary value to the time people give up for good causes.”

More than £50m has been spent on regeneration schemes in the resort since 2004, including the £20m redevelopment of Bridlington Spa.
