Revamp for home of arts group after seven-year campaign

THE home of a Leeds arts group has had a £365,000 facelift following a seven-year fundraising campaign.

As part of the renovations at Artlink West Yorkshire four stained glass windows, created by those who use the project, have been installed featuring designs based upon the four seasons.

The organisation, which is based in the Hyde Park area of the city, started fundraising in 2004 to refurnish the property. That work is now complete.

Cash came from 10 sources.

The charity runs arts schemes for groups such as Asian woman, those with mental health problems, young people and asylum seekers.

They say they can now be able to provide much better accommodation for those users.

Artlink director Sylvie Fourcin said parts of the building had been derelict before the work started.

“Doors were hanging off, it was falling apart and run down,” she said.

“We have now got a lift so everyone can access all the floors and the former cellar has been renovated so we can get to the garden without having to walk around the outside.”

The organisation has also received £60,000 a year for three years from the Arts Council to carry on its work combining art and health with vulnerable people.
