Colin Firth was crowned king of the Baftas last night.

He was named Best Actor for his portrayal of the stuttering monarch King George VI .

His film, The King’s Speech, a huge box office hit, won seven awards at the Orange British Academy Film Awards (Baftas)at the Royal Opera House in London. He picked up the Leading Actor award for the second year running and said: “I like coming here, thank you Bafta.” His co-stars, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, won awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively.

Natalie Portman won the Leading Actress award for her role as a ballet dancer in Black Swan.

Firth said he was now looking forward to the Oscars where he is heavily tipped to win Best Actor.
