Riot ‘joke’ case dropped

A TEENAGER who was accused of encouraging violence in Wakefield during the summer riots via a message on Facebook has had the case against him dropped.

Adam Luke Devine, 19 of Chantry Road, Lupset, Wakefield, maintained the message was only intended as a joke.

He had denied encouraging or assisting an offence on August 10 and after a teenager girl was acquitted of a similar offence by a jury at Leeds Crown Court last month on the direction of Judge Peter Collier QC the Recorder of Leeds, Richard Clews prosecuting said in the circumstances the case of Devine had been reconsidered.

“The case has been thoroughly reviewed and the prosecution intend to offer no evidence.”
