Road scheme leads to new flights

GRANTING planning permission for a new link road in Doncaster has already led to a boost for Robin Hood Airport, it was announced yesterday.

Last month, Doncaster Council gave its consent for the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), which will see a new link road built from junction 3 of the M18 motorway to the south-east of Doncaster, connecting the motorway with the airport, the Inland Port development and a proposed new housing development on the former Rossington pit.

And, yesterday, Robin Hood Airport said that Thomson and First Choice has increased the number of flights being offered from Doncaster to the popular holiday destinations of Palma, Dalaman and Reus.

Paul Cooper, from Thomson and First Choice, said: “The news that the FARRRS link road has taken a step forward is something we have been waiting to hear for Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“We are confident that this new road will open up key markets in Sheffield for us and help to attract passengers from the city.”

The new road is expected to reduce journey times from Sheffield by up to 20 minutes.
