Roadshow advice on cutting fuel bills

HARD-UP families and pensioners will be given expert advice on tackling crippling fuel bills as part of a new campaign to keep warm while also slashing the carbon footprint of their homes.

The Heating up Hambleton project is launched in Thirsk on Monday with a market place roadshow, where residents will be able to talk to experts on grants, benefits and fuel efficiency.

They will be able to find out whether they are eligible for any of the national and local grant schemes; check that they are receiving all the benefits entitled to; and explore price comparisons for fuel.

Advisors from the Energy Saving Trust will be on hand with tips on energy efficiency in the home, and how to keep fuel bills low.

A Hambleton Council spokesman said: "Currently there are around 17 per cent of people on low incomes living in homes in Hambleton with poor energy efficiency.

"But the district council wants to cut that to 1.5 per cent by 2016. It has engaged the Energy Saving Trust advice centre to see the Heating up Hambleton project through."

The roadshow takes place from 10am until 3pm. Call the team free on 0800 512 012 or email [email protected]
