Roadworks alert for drivers

MOTORISTS in Barnsley have been warned to expect major disruption when a roadworkks project begins on one the town’s major routes at the weekend.

The works will take place on the A61 Upper Sheffield Road, between Tune Street and the frontage to the former Yorkshire Traction Bus Depot.

Highways bosses said the majority of the work would be carried out between 7am and 4pm Monday to Friday, but would include some weekend work and would last five weeks.

The project will include road widening and resurfacing, resurfacing of the footpaths, improvements to bus stops, new pedestrian crossings and drainage improvements.
