Robin Hood stars at Cannes

Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe attend a photo call for Robin Hood as the 63rd Cannes Film Festival got under way yesterday.

The Hollywood action movie draws parallels with current political events.

Sir Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is set in the 12th century, during a period of great political change in England. Opening with the death of Richard I, the film focuses on the early stages of King John's reign, and the title character's return to a homeland affected by overseas wars.

It also features seven-year-old Jack Downham, from Leeds.
