Rock Choir's first album sets new world record

The group, made up of 4,386 members, will release their debut album Volume 1 on July 5. And the ensemble's mammoth size has now earned it a Guinness record. Although around 1,000 members appear on the album, all 4,386 are covered by the terms of their deal – setting a new world record.

Rock Choir is made up of 150 smaller choirs from across the UK.

At a concert to launch the album – which is number one in the Amazon pre-order "hot future releases" chart – more than 2,500 members performed at London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo.

The mainly female choir was formed in 2005 by director Caroline Redman Lusher and members perform well-known pop songs as an all-inclusive community group.

The group has landed a four-album deal with Decca Records, with the first album featuring songs such as Can't Hurry Love, Dancing In The Street and Valerie.

Ms Lusher said: "The power of singing and music is extraordinary and introducing contemporary songs and dance routines into a choir format takes us away from the more traditional impression people have of a standard choir."
