Route opens to encourage cycling

cyclists make use of a new route which was opened yesterday in Leeds with the intention of encouraging more cycling among students and residents.

The West Park cycle is designed to encourage those in the West Park, Burley Park, Hyde Park and Headingley areas to get on their bike and forms part of the growing Leeds Core Cycle Network aimed at helping more people to cycle regularly for their health, to avoid congestion and to reduce their carbon footprint.

The route will improve access to the city centre , University of Leeds’ campus and Weetwood Playing Fields, Leeds Met University City and Headingley campuses, and also provide a link to Lawnswood High School.

It was paid for by the Local Transport Plan and by sustainable transport charity Sustrans.
