Royal link to house art exhibition

ARTWORK from the Royal Family in the Georgian era will be on show as part of a major new exhibition at Fairfax House in York from next month.

Collection curator Rachel Boak is pictured holding a decorated wall light, loaned from the Rothschild Collection at Wadston Manor.

The exhibition, called Gilding the Lily, pays homage to the exquisite use of the flower in Georgian decorative arts.

It will showcase examples of florally inspired, 18th century works and will include pieces on loan from museums such as the Royal Collection and the British Museum as well as the Rothschild Collection.

The exhibition examines how the scientific passion for botanical study and recording of flowers inspired artists.

The exhibition runs from April 1 to July 31.
