Royals support city plans to go child-friendly

Leeds launched its ambitious plans to become a child-friendly city during the Royal visit.

And they immediately won the Palace’s seal of approval, with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh entering the first signatures in the Child Friendly Leeds Visitors’ Book, in support of the project.

Councillor Judith Blake, the city council’s executive member for children’s services, unveiled the plans at the City Varieties Theatre, where she described how residents and businesses had to put young people “at the heart of everything they do”.

She added: “One of the ambitions of being a child-friendly city is for Leeds to become a city where every young person is in education, employment or training.”

The campaign’s aims include creating a city where youngsters are safe from harm, have fun growing up and are equipped with skills for life.
