Rugby star and bride make it to the altar for delayed ceremony

It was almost the wedding that never happened but rugby ace Luke Robinson proved love conquers all when he finally tied the knot at the weekend.

The Huddersfield Giants' star and his fiance Laura Towler had to postpone their wedding in Cyprus scheduled for last month when Mr Robinson was called up to play for England in the Four Nations– where he broke a bone in his elbow during the final game.

But hiccups and injuries were forgotten on Saturday as the couple finally became husband and wife in an idyllic church wedding in the West Yorkshire village of Coley.

Speaking outside St John the Baptist church, where the couple had earlier exchanged their vows, the new Mrs Robinson said she felt "absolutely amazing."

The 27 year-old teacher said: "It was a lovely service. It's done now and it's been great. I'm a bit speechless. It's been perfect. It was great, everything we hoped for, fun."

The couple, friends and family had pulled out all the stops to rearrange the big day within a matter of weeks and it was clear their efforts had paid off.

Mr Robinson, 26, said: "It's a very happy day obviously."

"It's been a little bit of a long time coming. I have been kind of holding her at arms' length for about seven years now," he joked.

Earlier the happy couple had smiled broadly at one another as they held hands and exchanged their vows at the altar of the nineteenth century church in front of more than 80 guests.
