A broken down vehicle on the eastbound carriageway of the A58(M) inner ring road caused major disruption on a string of key local routes.

Tailbacks stretched as far as the M621, with drivers heading eastbound hit by delays between Gildersome and the city centre.

Motorists also had to contend with hold-ups between junctions eight and two of the motorway’s westbound carriageway.

Other routes affected by the mayhem included the A61, A64, A65, A643, A647 and A6110.

Today’s problems came in the wake of disruption to morning rush-hours caused by the weather-related closure of roads around Leeds city centre’s Bridgewater Place skyscraper.
