Vessels in the Russian Arctic Convoys would often be covered with ice in the sub zero conditions.

The Foreign Office last year made an exception to rules on foreign medals for Britishn servicemen and woman to allow Arctic Convoy veterans to be honoured with the Ushakov medal.
