Ryanair raises luggage prices in time for summer

PASSENGERS flying with budget airline Ryanair will have to pay more for checked-in luggage in the peak summer period, it was confirmed yesterday.

The Irish no-frills carrier raised its per-bag fee from 15 to 20 for all bookings made after midnight last night for travel in July and August.

The 15 fee for checked-in bags will return in September.

A Ryanair spokesman said: "We are determined to incentivise passengers to travel light this summer by increasing our checked-in baggage fees for the months of July and August only.

"Over 70 per cent of all Ryanair passengers will be unaffected by these changes because they travel with no checked-in bags."

Ryanair recently announced a massive expansion of flights from Leeds Bradford airport.

Ryanair claims that opening its 34th base at Leeds Bradford would increase the airline's traffic at the airport to one million passengers a year and sustain 1,000 jobs.

The airline now has two aircraft based at the airport and flies to 17 destinations from Leeds Bradford.
