Schedule unveiled as town show moves back to traditional home

THE schedule has been unveiled for the annual Rotherham Show, which this year will return to the town after being staged outside its traditional home for the first time in 2009.

Festivities were moved to Rosehill Victoria Park in Rawmarsh last year because of restoration work in Clifton Park, which had hosted the show since 1979.

But the 5m Lottery-funded scheme is now complete and the event, including a horticultural show and a vintage vehicle rally, will take place on September 11-12. The show has flower and vegetable categories, while organisers are expecting record entries in the vehicle display.

Rotherham Council events manager Kate Butler said: "The static display on Saturday and Sunday will be located near to the bandstand which will host a range of music over the weekend.

"There are limited places on both days, therefore, spaces will be allocated on a first come basis. We are also pleased to announce the return of the vintage vehicles tour of the borough.

"The tour will start at 10.30am from Herringthorpe Stadium , led by the Mayor of Rotherham, Rose McNeely, finishing in Clifton Park. We hope people will come down and cheer the vehicles."

It is expected that almost 100 cars will be on display, including a 1926 Austin Mayfair, and 1967 Daimler and a 1964 Triumph Speedtwin motorcycle.
