School calls in police after pupil complains about a male teacher

A police investigation was also started after a female pupil at South Holderness College, at Preston, near Hull, made a complaint about a male teacher.

Managers at the school – where two teachers last year were suspended after “crude” remarks were made about students on the social networking site Facebook – declined to comment yesterday.

Humberside Police said their investigations were at an early stage.

In a statement they added: “Humberside Police have been made aware of allegations made against a teacher at South Holderness College.

“The allegations are currently under investigation but no arrests have been made to date.”

Headteacher Martin Cooper told parents “appropriate safeguarding measures” were in place, adding: “I would like to reassure everyone that the college has followed the advice and guidance from the local authority in relation to the protocols and procedures which have to be carried out.”

The two teachers in the earlier case were reinstated last November after “appropriate management action” was taken.

The school is the second in the East Riding to suspend a teacher in recent weeks.

A male member of staff at Market Weighton School was suspended in April, following allegations of a relationship with a pupil.

“Police were called in after being made aware of “rumours”, but have left the matter in the hands of the local authority after finding no evidence of criminal activity.
