School unit for problem children

CHILDREN with discipline and behaviour problems in primary schools will attend a new unit in Doncaster where specialists will attempt to bring them under control.

The new "additionally resourced centre" has been opened at Long Tofts Primary School in Stainforth and will teach and assist children sent there from other schools in the borough.

Staff are trained in dealing with problem children, and according to Doncaster Council, which runs the unit, early intervention is key to helping difficult pupils back into mainstream education.

The unit was officially opened by Doncaster Council's director of children's services Chris Pratt, although staff have been providing support to schools since last year.

Alison Rahman, who is in charge at Long Tofts, said: "We believe every child deserves a chance and at Long Toft we have developed a highly inclusive supportive community."
