More than 1,000 tributes have been paid on Facebook to a talented teenager who died of suspected swine flu.

Budding singer Olivia Rae Clee-Barnett, 17, from the Wirral, died in hospital early on Sunday.

Shocked friends set up a page on the popular social networking site to pay tribute to Olivia, known as "Livvy".

In a statement, Wallasey School headteacher Phil Duffy described the sixth-former as a "popular and positive student".

He added: "We are devastated by the news about Olivia. She was a very able student with a particular passion for music and theatre."

Mr Duffy said staff and students affected by the loss will be offered bereavement counselling.

The youngster was among a school group involved in a theatre production of Grease that brought them national TV stardom in 2009. They beat 500 other schools to perform at London's Novello theatre.

A coroner's spokesman said tests were taking place yesterday to establish the cause of her death.
