Schoolgirls bag the benefits of holiday work

TWO schoolgirls have been praised for their “amazing” effort after working through their summer holidays to raise £9,000 for charity.

Samantha Norris and Ellie Hickman, both aged 12 and from Beverley, spent the summer collecting bags of unwanted goods for the Beverley British Heart Foundation – and with each of their 331 total being worth about £20 have raised enough to fund a heart nurse for more than six weeks.

The girls, who were part of the Humberside Police Lifestyle team, also presented the Beverley BHF shop with a cheque for more than £500 on the last day of their summer holiday.

Area manager Karen Reynolds said: “It’s fantastic to see the girls rallying the local community and supporting the Great British “Bagathon”.

“I think it’s amazing that people as young as Samantha and Ellie would dedicate their whole summer to raising funds for the BHF.

“We hope that this will inspire more people to get involved as joining in couldn’t be easier.

“Just set aside some time and have a clear out of the things you no longer want or need and donate them to your local BHF shop.

“Every bag you fill is a bag full of life-saving research.”
