Search for chocolate factory staff

The latest addition to the city’s hugely successful tourism sector, Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story, is due to open in the spring.

Now, giant posters displaying photographs of the former factory staff have been put up in the windows of the King’s Square attraction.

York-based firm Continuum, which is behind the project, is appealing for help in identifying the faces of the men and women employed by York’s confectionery dynasties, such as Rowntrees and Terrys, during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

Ann Gurnell, general manager of Continuum, said: “Our new attraction will feature the lives of the people and generations of families who lived and breathed sweets and chocolates in York, not only at work but in their social, sports and home lives too.

“So whether people spot their grandfather who made Polos or Uncle Mick in gums and Smartie packing, we would love to hear all about them.”
