In search of a home: Shiver, the puppy abandoned in a snowy bin

A NINE-WEEK-old puppy was abandoned in the Leeds snow on one of the coldest days of the year.

Shiver, as Dogs Trust staff have named the pup, has been described as a “miracle dog” after surviving the bitterly cold temperatures.

The cross-breed was found scavenging for food by some bins in Harehills, Leeds, and rescued by a kind-hearted member of the public on Monday.

The region had experienced its heaviest snowfall in two years and seven inches of snow had fallen in Leeds the night before Shiver was found.

Shiver was left to fend for herself after being cast aside by her owners.

Amanda Sands, manager of Dogs Trust Leeds, said: “We’re not sure exactly how long she had been out in the cold but it’s a miracle she survived in those temperatures.

“When she was brought in she was freezing cold and couldn’t stop shivering. She was clearly hungry and we think she’d been looking for food by the bins where she was found.”

Prospective owners are asked to contact the Dogs Trust Leeds Rehoming Centre, Woodlands Farm, York Road, Leeds, or call 0113 281 4920.
