Sex attacker may have targeted six lone women

A MAN who targets lone women may be responsible for at least six attacks in a Yorkshire city centre.

Detectives investigating the latest assault in Leeds said they were keeping "an open mind" on links with earlier attacks.

In an effort to catch a possible serial attacker, West Yorkshire Police have issued still photographs of a man, who may have important information about the latest incident.

At 3.20am on May 1, a 28-year-old woman was walking in Dock Street when she was approached from behind by a man who indecently assaulted her.

After examining footage from council closed circuit TV security cameras, police believe the attacker may have been in the Boar Lane area of the city centre before the sex assault.

He is described as white, with a shaved head. He wore a black jacket which had white marking on the front of the left shoulder and on the rear right shoulder area, and jeans which had faded patches.

After the attack the man is believed to have removed the jacket and was wearing a black T-shirt beneath.

The City Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) is continuing patrols in the local area.

One of the earlier victims, a 30-year-old woman who had been grabbed in the early hours of New Year's Day by a man who tried to drag her into an alleyway, has never got over the terrifying attack.

She said: "I am absolutely petrified. I have to go out on the road for my work and now have to have somebody with me.

"I cannot go out after dark on my own, I cannot walk my dog and it is like being housebound."

The sales manager had been at a bar in Leeds on New Year's Eve and planned to get a taxi to spend the night at a friend's apartment. She was unable to get a cab and decided to walk.

The first alleged assault was at 4.20pm on December 29, and three subsequent attacks occurred within 80 minutes on the night of Wednesday, January 6, between 8pm and 9pm.
