Sheffield pub hours extension plan opposed

PLANS to extend the opening hours of a city centre pub have met with a series of objections from residents of newly-developed flats in the area.

Punch Taverns, which owns the Dog and Partridge in Trippet Lane, Sheffield, have applied to open until 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

In previous years, night time noise had not been a problem at the pub, but over the past five years several new residential blocks have been built.

Sheffield councillor Rob Murphy has led the objections to plans drawn up by the pub company, which also wants to open from 9am to serve breakfasts and non- alcoholic drinks.

He said that people living at the West Point apartments nearby had already contacted him about noise from the pub.

He added: “I understand that planning permissions do not apply as the pub pre-dates their inception. There are clear concerns about the operation of the pub in recent months,”

Punch said it would continue to operate under the restrictions imposed by its current licence.
