Sheffield takeaway proposal opposed

HUNDREDS of residents in the upmarket Sheffield suburb of Fulwood are objecting to plans to convert a shop into a takeaway.

More than 300 local residents have signed a petition, while 23 more have submitted letters of objection to Sheffield Council, in protest against the proposals to turn “Be Inspired” in Fulwood Road into a takeaway.

The petition says that there is already a “dominance of hot food takeaways in the area, and the proposal will lead to over-dominance”.

Ward councillor Janice Sidebottom, meanwhile, has also objected to the plans, and said: “There are flats above the retail units, and the proposal would cause extra noise late at night.”

City planners have already come out on the side of objectors and have recommended that the planning application is turned down by councillors at a meeting due to be held next Tuesday.

In recommendations circulated to committee members before that meeting, the planning officials claimed the proposed change of use would result in problems from “odour and noise” to nearby residents to the north on Tom Lane and to the first floor flat above.
