Sheffield traders urged to share views on Parking Payback scheme

TRADERS taking part in an innovative scheme to attract shoppers to a city suburb by offering them promotions using pay-and-display car parking tickets are being urged to let council chiefs know how the initiative is working.

Sheffield Council has been working with the traders in Broomhill on a trial Parking Payback scheme for the last three months.

It gives shoppers access to offers and promotions at participating businesses with their pay-and-display parking tickets.

The parking tickets are in two parts – one is the parking ticket for displaying in the vehicle as usual and the other a Parking Payback voucher.

The voucher can be presented at participating shops that display distinctive window stickers and they will pay back the parking costs in the form of discounts and special offers.

The council now wants to review the scheme to see if it has been successful in improving business for traders and whether it could be improved.

Coun Leigh Bramall, the council’s cabinet member for business, skills and development, said: “We were keen to work with the traders in Broomhill on this trial scheme to help them generate more business in their area.

“We have tested it for three months to see how it works in practice and would now ask people to give us their comments on how it has worked for them.

“If it has proven to be successful, we will look to extend it and possibly roll it out into other parts of
the city in the future, so please send in your feedback – we need to hear from everyone to make a decision on how we can take this forward.”

The deadline for responses is Friday, March 21.
