Signs point to Yorkshire as comics take road trip for taste of the North

A BACKDROP of stunning locations across Yorkshire could threaten to steal the limelight from actors Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon who have teamed up for a new improvised comedy that sees them take a culinary road trip through the English countryside.

Directed by Michael Winterbottom for the BBC, The Trip, documents the pair as they take on fine dining and B-roads after Coogan recruits Brydon to accompany him on an assignment to visit various historic locations connected to the lives of Wordsworth and Coleridge.

Production was supported by Screen Yorkshire for the Yorkshire leg of the shoot, which includes a number of locations across Craven District and the Yorkshire Dales, as the duo, armed only with their appetites and a road map, visit Malham Cove, The Angel Inn at Hetton, Bolton Abbey and the Ribblehead Viaduct, among others.

Producer Melissa Parmenter said: "It was a pleasure filming across Yorkshire's stunning and diverse countryside locations and eating at the region's finest restaurants. The production team received a warm welcome wherever we filmed and Screen Yorkshire were vital in facilitating a smooth shoot."

The Trip, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, is being released as a film internationally in the New Year but is aired in the UK on BBC 2 from tonight with repeats of each show on Sundays.
