Signs of unease as town’s name tweak scrapped

ROAD signs welcoming visitors to Northallerton have been altered after an outcry over a re-design which saw its name tweaked in a bid to update its image.

The name on the signs was spelt with a lower case “n” to provide a more dynamic brand.

However, a long-running campaign has led to Northallerton Town Council changing the signs at a cost of £65 – by sticking capital “Ns” over the lower case letters.

But councillors have raised concerns over whether the altered signs are fully reflective in car lights at night. Mayor Jack Dobson said: “I have always wanted the signs changed back. Unfortunately people are arriving at ‘orthallerton’ at night.
