‘Small-minded’ artists issued with big time £20 challenge

ARTISTS are wanted who will submit works no larger than a £20 note for a forthcoming exhibition at the Cupola Gallery in Sheffield.

Entitled Miniatures, the exhibition will run at the gallery in Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, from Friday March 16 until Sunday April 22.

The deadline for submissions is this coming Friday.

Gallery managing director Karen Sherwood said: “Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee prices will be smaller than £20.”

Artists interested in taking up the creative challenge and submitting works for consideration should send an email to [email protected] or call the gallery on 0114 285 2665.

The display will be officially opened with an evening event when the artworks on display will be for sale.

In the meantime, the Series Five Collection by Niel Tunnecliff remains open at gallery until Sunday March 11.

Mr Tunnecliff said: “The work arrives from the natural world in super 8mm film format.

“I then transfer this to digital format, edit it and built it up until I have totally abstracted the original piece.

“I deduct still from the abstracted film and then transfer these images, along with thoughts and concepts, into paintings.”
