Smoothly does it

Seven-year-old Jude Taylor checks out a sculpture by Masayuki Koorida at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

It is one of five sculptures by the Japanese artist that have arrived at the park, near Wakefield. Koorida creates highly polished sculptures in granite, and his work will be on display at the rear of the Formal Garden until next year. Smooth and with perfect curves, the works are influenced by biological forms such as molecules as well as the visual style of Japanese animation.

This is the first opportunity in the UK to view the work of the artist who since 2006 has been the director of the Shanghai Sculpture Park where he continues to create new work. The sculpture park is an international centre for modern and contemporary art.
