Snow-delayed Festival of Light finally to go ahead at hospice

The event, which is held annually at St Luke's Hospice

in Little Common Lane, Whirlow, Sheffield, attracts sponsors for hundreds of white lights which are strung through trees in the hospice grounds. Individual sponsors are asked for a donation of at least 5 per light, while companies which take part usually give at least 50 to the hospice for each bulb they sponsor in memory of a former patient.

The names of those being remembered will be entered in a commemorative book at the hospice during the ceremony, which will also include music from the Holymoorside Band and traditional refreshments including mince pies and mulled wine.

Radio Sheffield presenter Paulette Edwards will switch on the lights at 6pm on Sunday, but the event will be open to the public from 4.30pm.

Because of a lack of parking at the hospice, those attending the Festival of Light are asked to use a park and ride shuttle service from the Tesco supermarket on Abbeydale Road South, which will run from 4.35pm.
