Soap stars serve up charity sale in actress's memory

STARS of EastEnders stars turned back the clock yesterday to recreate the old-fashioned atmosphere of the 1970s sitcom Are You Being Served? in memory of late actress Wendy Richard.

Richard found fame as the glamorous Miss Shirley Brahms in the popular show before moving on to become Albert Square’s Pauline Fowler.

EastEnders colleagues – and original stars of the vintage programme – took to the shopfloor at London store Selfridges yesterday for a charity sale of Richard’s collection of clothes.

Nicholas Smith, who played Mr Rumbold in Are You Being Served?, was among those who helped out. And Walford actors June Brown, Natalie Cassidy, James Alexandrou and Ricky Groves – who recently split from wife Hannah Waterman – also dressed up as characters from the sitcom, which was set in the Grace Brothers department store, to raise cash for charity.
