Families in the street described the Wrights as a "charming" couple with lots of friends and said they were shocked by the attack which happened when many of them were enjoying a quiet Bank Holiday at home.
Next door neighbour Dr John Allison paid tribute to the couple.
He told the Sheffield Star: "He was a first class man and they were both popular around here. They were a good couple and what has happened is a tragedy."
