Spring clean for litter-strewn estate

RESIDENTS on a Hull estate are being urged to bring out their rubbish to help clean their neighbourhood.

Funding from the Pickering ward community budget will provide facilities for residents on Boothferry estate to get rid of unwanted items and help give the streets a spring clean.

The area will be undergoing a clean-up as part of the community payback scheme at the same time.

The initiative, which will take place from Wednesday, March 7, to Sunday, March 11, follows complaints about litter and street cleaning in the area.

Liberal Democrat ward councillor Claire Thomas said: “After speaking to hundreds of people on the Boothferry North estate it became clear to us that residents wanted a spring clean of the area. Hopefully a combination of the facilities we will provide and the Community Payback team getting stuck in will make the area feel as good as new.

“I am sure the day will be a success after a similar project in the Gipsyville area achieved great results. We are looking to do a more of these spring cleans in other areas after speaking to people with similar concerns.”
