Staff and guests to celebrate completion of £1.3m hospital refurbishment

Hospital staff and invited guests will gather today to celebrate the completion of a £1.3m refurbishment of Driffield’s Alfred Bean Hospital.

The day hospital has been reconstructed and two new treatment rooms added to expand the range of day treatments.

Other work included an overhaul of the entrance and main reception, a new dedicated ultrasound facility with changing room and a brand new floor for the physiotherapy gym.

The project included buying a piece of land adjacent to the site for 35 extra parking spaces.

Judy Douglas, Chair of the Alfred Bean Hospital League of Friends, said: “We are very pleased to see the improvements throughout the hospital. The new entrance area, in particular, has a much more welcoming feel for patients and visitors. We have also appreciated the way that the League of Friends and others were involved in the plans and had some influence on the final designs.”

Chairman of NHS East Riding Karen Knapton said: “I am delighted to mark the completion of the work alongside the Hospital’s League of Friends in recognition of their dedication to the hospital and Driffield community.

“Along with the construction of the new community hospital in Beverley, the refurbishment of Alfred Bean Hospital fits closely with our vision to develop services in the community, providing high quality care closer to patient’s homes wherever possible.
