Stars come out for charity

Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson, left, tries to get the ball under control as Leeds United stars from the 1980s played in a match yesterday in aid of the Leeds Fans Remembrance appeal. Among those taking part were John Sheridan, Andy Ritchie, Brendan Ormsby and Bobby Davison. Current Leeds manager Simon Grayson pulled on his boots, as did Kaiser Chiefs indie rockers Hodgson, Andrew White and Nick 'Peanut' Baines. The game was played at Garforth Town's Genix Healthcare ground.

The Leeds Fans Remembrance appeal was set up to help mark the 10th anniversary of the deaths of Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight, who were killed in the Turkish city of Istanbul in April 2000, on the eve of a Uefa Cup tie.

Proceeds will go to Leeds-based children’s cancer charity Candlelighters. Picture: Jonathan Gawthorpe.
