Stately home is set to go medieval

YOU can step back into the past at a weekend that organisers say is the North’s most authentic medieval event.

Harewood’s Medieval Faire is set to be staged in the grounds of the stately home near Leeds on Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27.

The two-day spectacular includes battle re-enactments, archery, jousting, a medieval market, encampments and even an archaeological dig.

It is set in the home’s grounds with the historic 14th century Castle ruins and the 15th century All Saints Church as the backdrop. Renowned poet and filmmaker Simon Warner will conduct the daily tours of the castle and bring to life the stories of those who lived in the Middle Ages.

The archaeological dig is on the site of the 13th century manor house Gawthorpe Hall, demolished in 1774 and uncovered by York University students in 2012.

Day tickets start at £15 or visitors can camp from £10 a night. Visit www.harewood.org/medieval.
