Station provides cyclists with easier ramp access

Commuters who cycle to York station are set to benefit from a £550,000 investment to improve facilities, including the building of two access ramps.

More than 430,000 is being spent by York Council, Cycling City York and train operator East Coast to build the cycle ramps to the north and south of the station.

The north ramp will lead into the short stay car park from Leeman Road and the south ramp will run from Lowther Terrace into the long stay car park, with additional CCTV cameras and lights being introduced to cover the new access routes.

East Coast and Network Rail are also putting up 120,000 to replace stair coverings and the flooring of the station's internal footbridge linking platform three to platforms 5-11.

East Coast managing director Karen Boswell said: "We have responded to cyclists' suggestions and created these two new routes, which should make getting into the station easier and quicker."
