Steam spectacular pulls big crowd at historic city home

The Tudor-Jacobean splendour of Temple Newsam became the backdrop for a spectacular celebration of the age of steam yesterday.

The stately home in Leeds hosted the Leeds Steam Spectacular.

The huge event saw steam enthusiasts treated to a spectacular display of hundreds of traction engines.

Vintage vehicle enthusiasts were also catered for with dozens of classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors on display.

Alongside the vast array of vehicles there was fairgrounds, both traditional and modern. and a craft tent.

The crowds were also entertained with a display by Ridgeside Falconry of Durham as well as numerous demonstrations of working machinery.

One of the highlights for the crowds was a display by The Royal Signals White Helmets, the spectacular motorcycle formation riding team.

The crowds were wowed by a demonstration of precision riding by the 25-strong team which performs all over the country and abroad.

The Leeds Steam Spectacular opened at Temple Newsam yesterday and continues until the end of today.

Entrance for children under 16 is free while adults are charged £5. Parking is free.
